The Best Places to Shop for Denim

January 27, 2019

Boyfriend, bootcut, cigarette, skinny – there’s a style, cut, wash, and length perfect for everyone when it comes to jeans! Denim was first introduced in the 19th century as rugged clothing for working men. It is now commonly worn, however, by both men and women and is loved by fashion connoisseurs, teenagers, workaholics, and parents. Jeans, which are trousers made of denim, are versatile and are now worn as a dressier form of pant, item unlike their original purpose of being for relaxed, messier work! With all the denim options on the market, however, it can be challenging to know where to look for the right pair of jeans for you and when it’s a good idea to spend a little bit more for a great quality pair. Below I have listed my top nine favorite denim brands both budget-friendly and worth the splurge.

~ Budget Friendly: $50-$100 ~

1) Asos

It would be an understatement to say shopping at Asos is a “one swipe and you’re done” process. The online fashion and cosmetic retailer has everything covered from what to wear to a bridal shower to a lazy day at home. With so many options available the selection process can be overwhelming. That’s why I’ve decided to choose a few favorites from their jean collection for you. Asos sells many well-known brands at affordable prices, yet the quality of their products feel much more than you’re paying for. They sell both simple, timeless jeans, as well as trendy and unique styles that will make a statement.

2) Express

Express is my favorite brand for jeans that doesn’t break the bank. Since I have shorter legs, I have difficulty finding a pair that fits in all the right places. Often, jeans that fit perfectly around the hips are loose on the calves. Fortunately, Express has me covered because they sell the same jeans sized for people with both long and short legs. Although they offer many styles of denim, their timeless quality and designs will keep you covered for several years to come. I wear their classic, black, skinny jean both to run errands, and for holiday parties.

3) Topshop

From stylish high risers to statement skinnies, it's easy to find the perfect fit in Topshop’s denim collection. Their signature styles and seasonal collections offer selections of traditional and casual cuts, as well as edgy, urban designs. Topshop offers denim at a variety of price points and caters to all body sizes and heights. Similarly to Express, the brand’s concept ideas offer the same style of denim and both a tall, regular, and short fit, along with a whole petit range.

4) Levi's

No brand represents the spirit and legacy of the classic American jean better than Levi’s. Their brand offers the fits, fabrics, and details of the former golden era of America. Levi’s original fabrics dating back to when the brand first launched in 1873, are stored and used as inspiration for tribute collections, iconic reissues, and special editions that gave the brand its famed reputation. As coveted now as they were in the past, classic silhouettes from Levi's 501 to Wedgie Fit Jeans are heritage must-haves for denim connoisseurs.

5) AG (Adriano Goldschmied)

Italian fashion designer, Adriano Goldschmied is often regarded as the originator of “Premium denim”. His denim-focused brand has captured the eyes of both fashion-forward thinkers and those simply looking for elite quality. Goldschmied’s denim can be described as chic, sophisticated, and classic including cropped, trouser, straight, boyfriend, flare, skinny, cigarette, and bootcut styles. Although the more expensive price might turn some away, their timeless quality and sensational cuts will last decades.

6) 7 For All Mankind

7 For All Mankind jeans and apparel skyrocketed to success instantly when the denim brand captured the eye of celebrities and fashion editors. Supplying flawless fits, premium fabrics, and cool finishes, the iconic lifestyle label has everyone longing to own a pair. What makes the brand so accessible is their wide selection in both fit and styles. They offer skinny, straight, bootcut, flare, and boyfriend jeans, in all your favorite washes along with styles such as the “Edie”, which is a “modern straight fit, cropped at the ankle and high-waisted to flatter.” “Josefina,” a slightly slouchy fit with fashion-forward ease is another personal favorite.

7) Frame Denim

Premium Los Angeles denim brand, Frame, has collections that take inspiration from French "dressed up casual" style icons of the 1970s. Their denim lines feature perfectly cut skinny, flared, and boyfriend jeans of supreme quality. The Frame Denim brand was an instant hit in the fashion community when first launched in 2012. Their wide variety of cuts and styles are amplified by cool, sharp cuts, or slightly distressed patches. Every design comes in numerous colours ranging from black to vintage blue, perfect for an evening out, or an afternoon bike ride.

8) Paige Denim

Paige Denim is dedicated to designing pieces you'll live in. Their pure sophistication with a casual Southern California vibe has the ever-growing denim empire setting the standard for new, and upcoming brands. The brand's growing success and celebrity following is attributed to its trend styles, premium materials, and passion for quality fit, that emanate confidence from within. Their high-rise, skinny jeans are my favorite out of their many selections, however, their sleek and shiny, boot-cut jeans look fabulous on everyone!

9) Rag & Bone

The contemporary favorite Rag & Bone offers everyday denim and tees. Smart, urban dressers continue to return to the brand for their crisp blazers, versatile booties, and sleek trousers, too. Embedded with a smart, downtown aesthetic, their denim is at the brand’s helm with easygoing standouts including high-rise skinny jeans, cutoff jean shorts, tailored cigarette jeans, and denim in all your favorite colours. In other words, your go-to weekend wardrobe starts here. Combining British heritage with directional, modern design, today, the brand is known for its innately wearable pieces that meld classic tailoring with an edgy yet understated New York City aesthetic.
