Picture this, it’s a beautiful sunny day with a slight breeze and not a cloud in the sky. The birds are chirping and the squirrels are prancing across the lawns in search of acorns. After waking up, brewing a fresh pot of coffee, and eating a warm bowl of oatmeal, you head over to your computer to check your email. For the first day all month, nothing needs your immediate attention. Hooray! You now have the morning free of work, but how shall you spend your time? You look out the window and think to yourself that a picnic seems like the perfect thing to do.
You call your friends to ask them to join you, make a couple tea sandwiches, pour some lemonade into a bottle, nicely package up some macaroons, and grab a blanket and some sunscreen. There’s only one thing left to think about … what you should wear? Here are four summer outfits perfect for a picnic!
~ Long, Flowy Dresses ~
A picnic means that you will be spending your time sitting on a blanket on a grassy surface. Tight fitted clothing is simply not an option if you want to be comfortable. You want to be able to move and sit down with ease and not be uncomfortable the whole time. A long, flowy dress solves this problem. I used to think these types of dresses would swallow me in too much fabric, however, there are so many different styles these days that everyone will be able to find something that is flattering. Also, the varieties of patterns are endless!

~ Tea Dresses ~
This may not be the most casual of options, but if you are looking to dress nicely and very put-together, than this would be the right choice. Tea dresses are made in order to look elegant and reformed while still being carefree and a comfortable version of a nice dress. Self-Portrait is the first brand to come to mind when I think of tea-dresses because of their large selection of colours, cuts, and styles of lace.

~ Shorts and a T-Shirt ~
Picnics by no means have to be fancy, in fact, I think when most people think of a picnic, it’s a pretty casual and laid back event. The main goal is to relax, chat, and have fun while nibbling on snacks, and sipping drinks. As much as I love skirts and dresses, sometimes shorts are a much more practical option. They are comfortable, chic, casual and allow you to enjoy yourself while not fussing over what you’re wearing.
~ Jeans and a Blouse ~
This is the perfect option for those of you who are still looking for a relaxed, comfortable style yet want to keep your legs covered. Jeans work for almost any casual setting, and a picnic is the perfect time to pull out your favorite pair. They are a great choice if you will be sitting on the ground and eating lots of sweets and drinking champagne! Dressing up jeans with a blouse is my personal choice, but feel free to exchange this for a t-shirt or jersey based on your mood. Blouses add a more feminine top alongside the earthiness of denim and I especially like a high collared blouses with ruffles and lace. I think this is where my passion for English, Edwardian history comes through in my style! If dresses don’t fit your state of mind, this would be the perfect choice for you.
